Closed Guard Fundamentals - Breaking Posture and Hip Position

June 16, 2010 by admin

Stephan Kesting demonstrates a few fundamentals of the closed guard: (1) breaking down your opponent's posture and (2) hip positioning. The ways to break down your opponent's posture are with: a sleeve and deep collar grip; an overhook and collar grip; an underhook and head. Stephan says you shouldn't keep your hips flat on the floor; it's a dead-end. Instead, either get on your side or angle your hips out (in an armbar/triangle position).
