Demian Maia demonstrates entry into the omoplata from full guard and half guard, along with some armlock theory. He first discusses how your opponent is strong when his arms are close to his body, but weak when far. Using this principle, Demian bridges and shrimps (hip escapes) to isolate one arm. The bridge and shrimp moves your opponent's arm away from his body, weakening it. From half guard, Demian shows a principle of leverage in manipulating the head. From basic physics we all know that if you lengthen the distance from the fulcrum, less force is needed for the same counterforce. Here, if you push at the top of the head rather than the lower portion of the head, less effort is needed to move the head.
